Professor Xará
Professor Xará is originally from Minas Gerais, Brazil. He is a student Mestre Chicote. Professor Xará started playing Capoeira in 1994 in Unai, Minas Gerais, Brazil. In 1998 he moved to Patos de Minas, Minas Gerais, and began training with Mestre Chicote and the group Raízes -- Cordão de Ouro (Roots Cordão de Ouro) under the instruction of Mestre Chicote. In the year 2000, Professor Xará took over the teaching of the group Raízes -- Cordão de Ouro in Patos de Minas as Mestre Chicote moved to the United States. In the year 2004, Professor Xará received his graduation to Instructor belt, and in the same year moved from Brazil to Des Moines, IA-USA.
Professor Xará developed his own philosophy and methodology for teaching Capoeira by following innovative concepts of his teacher Mestre Chicote. Professor Xará’s vision for Capoeira has been to create an organization that strives to move forward, keeping one foot in the past and one foot in the future- maintaining tradition while adapting to society’s changes. The organization strives to improve and promote Capoeira- allowing it to reach its full potential as an internationally respected art, while maintaining its dignity, character, history and traditions. It is Professor’s Xará mission to promote and spread Capoeira all over the United States- focusing his work here in Des Moines.
